He has previously worked as a Chief Director in the Economic Development Director-General of the Industrial Development Division (IDD) of the dti.

The International Trade and Economic Development (ITED) Division provides leadership on South Africa's trade policy, to promote economic development. It further aims to build an equitable multilateral trading system that facilitates development and strengthens trade and investment links with key economies.

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) was established in June 2019 by the incorporation of the Department: Economic Development (EDD) into the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti). ITED is mainly a policy development division which seeks to design policy instruments to facilitate economic activity aimed at SA's further integration into the global economy. It also aims to negotiate international trade agreements on a bilateral and multilateral basis within the context of a global trade environment The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) designates Foreign Economic Representatives (FERs) to South African missions and embassies abroad. These FERs serve as the direct liaison between prospective foreign investors or potential importers and the Department´s Head Office in terms of facilitating and fostering export and investment the dti Technical Infrastructure Unit ensures that South Africa's technical infrastructure meets with domestic, regional and international market demands, complies with international standards, technical regulations and best practices. These five strategic objectives will be achieved through the collective efforts of the dti´s internal divisions and its Council of Trade and Industry Institutions (COTII), which are linked through a value chain to generate public value for the country´s economic citizens and deliver high-quality products and services to the dti´s varied clients and stakeholders. These products and services include policies, legislation and regulations, financial support and investment incentives The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti), in collaboration with the Western Cape Department of Finance and Economic Opportunities will host an Economic Policy Dialogue to unpack the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) with the intention of exposing the Business community of the Western Cape to the new opportunities for South Africa, at an event that will take place in Cape Town on Friday, 13 March 2020.
