Trade with the EU matters a lot, but slightly less than it used to. Both imports and exports were higher in comparison with 2017, with the increase for imports (EUR 123 billion) smaller than that for exports (EUR 77 billion). Beyond the businesses that are directly involved in international trade, others sell their goods or services into exporters’ supply chains and are therefore indirectly reliant on international trade to some extent. Of the £509 billion exports in 2015, around two thirds is estimated to result from domestic primary inputs.
